ROUTE TYPES

Three route types for different needs

Route names describe the connection path and network structure, not a fixed city or a specific application. Choose a destination first, then consider your priorities for stability, path length and cost.

IEPL

IEPL routes use a relatively independent cross-border transmission path with fewer network hops and more centralized path planning. They are better suited to extended access to international websites, long sessions with cloud resources or high-resolution streaming. Organizing dedicated route resources usually costs more than using standard relay routes, making them a suitable choice when connection stability comes first. When choosing this type of route, focus less on chasing a single momentary figure and more on confirming that the destination has a matching endpoint, while keeping switchable alternatives for different times of day.

Relay routes

Relay routes connect through one or more network nodes before reaching the destination region. Their advantage is flexible regional coverage and a wider range of paths between different endpoints, making them suitable for everyday browsing, research and switching between regions. As relay hops increase, the experience is influenced by the entry point, destination region and local network, so it is best to keep several options in the same region. If one endpoint performs poorly on the current network, switching to another route in the same region is usually easier for troubleshooting than changing countries repeatedly.

Direct routes

Direct routes connect to the destination region through a relatively short network path, with a straightforward structure and lower configuration overhead. They suit tasks with a clear destination and regional requirements that do not need complex relays, such as opening websites for a target region, handling lightweight resources and running basic connection tests. Direct does not mean identical performance in every network environment; local carriers, access time and the destination site’s policies all affect results. If the connection is unstable, compare it with a relay or IEPL route in the same region.

HOW TO CHOOSE

Choose a route by use case

No single route suits every task. The suggestions below consider destination, content type and connection duration together, and can serve as a starting order for first-time selection.

Everyday browsing

Start with a direct or relay route relatively close to the destination region, then confirm that pages, images and sign-in flows work normally. Everyday browsing rarely requires repeatedly pursuing a more complex route: keep one regular endpoint and a backup in the same region. If the sites you visit are spread across countries, switch according to the site’s region rather than staying with one country.

Streaming

First confirm the region where the content is available, then choose a route marked as supporting streaming. Streaming places greater emphasis on sustained connectivity and regional matching: IEPL routes suit longer viewing sessions, while relay routes are useful when switching between regions. If a regional notice, quality change or buffering interruption appears, check the region match first, then try another route in the same region.

AI tools

When accessing AI tools, region, account status and connection stability can all affect page loading and interaction. Start with an IEPL or relay route in a region commonly used by the target service, complete sign-in and a basic request, then keep a regular endpoint. If different tools require different regions, save routes for each region to reduce disruption to normal account use caused by frequent location changes.

Gaming

Gaming focuses more on path consistency and regional matching than on the server name itself. Choose a route relatively close to the game service region and run a basic test with a direct route first; if establishing a connection is difficult, try a relay or IEPL route. Avoid switching routes frequently during a game. Before switching, close apps that need to maintain a session to avoid reauthentication caused by a change in connection location.

Remote work

Remote work often involves multiple destinations, including web administration panels, file services, meeting tools and code repositories. Prefer an IEPL route in the same region as your regular connection and keep a relay route as backup. Before first use, open each required work service separately and confirm sign-in, file access and meeting connectivity. If only one service is affected, first determine whether the cause is a regional requirement or the service’s own access policy.

Recommended order

Choose the country or region first, then the route type, and finally switch between endpoints within the same region. When troubleshooting a connection, change only one variable at a time and record the platform, target service and route name in use. This makes it easier to determine whether the issue comes from the client, network environment or target service.
